About Aru Valley

Aru Valley is a picturesque Himalayan valley located about 12 km from Pahalgam in Anantnag district, Jammu & Kashmir, at an altitude of around 2,400 metres. Surrounded by dense coniferous forests, expansive green meadows, rushing mountain streams and snow-covered Himalayan peaks, the valley is one of the most beautiful trekking destinations in Kashmir. Aru is also an important base for several renowned treks, including Lidderwat, Tarsar–Marsar and Kolahoi Glacier, making it particularly popular among trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. The valley offers a peaceful combination of natural beauty and traditional Kashmiri mountain life. Trekking trails from Aru lead through forests, riverside paths, alpine meadows and remote shepherd settlements, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The upper meadow above the village provides particularly impressive views toward Kolahoi Peak, while the Aru River adds to the valley’s scenic charm. During summer, the meadows become lush and colourful with wildflowers, while autumn brings golden landscapes and winter transforms the area with snow.
