The Chopta–Tungnath–Chandrashila Trek is one of the most scenic and rewarding short Himalayan treks in Uttarakhand, offering a perfect combination of natural beauty, spirituality, adventure, and breathtaking mountain views. The trek usually takes 2 days and 1 night, beginning from the beautiful hill station of Chopta, surrounded by lush forests and alpine meadows. From Chopta, the trail gradually climbs through dense rhododendron and oak forests towards Tungnath Temple, one of the highest Shiva temples in the world, situated at approximately 3,680 metres (12,073 feet). After visiting the temple, trekkers continue along a steeper trail towards Chandrashila Summit, reaching around 4,000 metres (13,123 feet). From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas, including majestic peaks such as Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Dome and Gangotri ranges. During winter, the landscape is transformed into a beautiful snow-covered wonderland, making the trek especially attractive for snow lovers. In spring and summer, colourful rhododendrons, green meadows, clear skies, and pleasant temperatures create a completely different experience. The trek is considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness as well as experienced trekkers.
