About Dong Valley Trek
The Dong Valley Trek is an adventurous journey into the remote eastern Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh, near Walong in Anjaw district. Dong is a small village inhabited mainly by the Meyor community, surrounded by beautiful pine forests, steep mountains and the Lohit River. The region is famous for its exceptionally early sunrise, and trekkers undertake a pre-dawn hike to a high ridge or viewpoint to watch the first rays of sunlight illuminate the surrounding mountains and valley.The trek generally begins in the early hours of the morning and involves an uphill walk through forested sections, steps, grasslands and mountain trails. The route is relatively short but includes some steep sections, making it an easy-to-moderate adventure for reasonably fit trekkers. At the top, the panoramic views of the Lohit Valley, pine-covered slopes and distant Himalayan mountains provide a spectacular reward. The surrounding region also offers opportunities to explore remote villages such as Kibithoo and Kaho, while the area’s unique tribal culture adds another dimension to the journey.
