About Dzongri–Thansing
The Dzongri–Thansing Trek is one of the most scenic Himalayan trekking routes in West Sikkim, offering an extraordinary journey through beautiful forests, peaceful valleys, alpine meadows and spectacular mountain landscapes. The trail begins near Yuksom and passes through enchanting forests filled with rhododendrons, fir trees and other Himalayan vegetation. During spring, the rhododendron forests become especially colourful, creating a wonderful contrast against the deep green surroundings and distant snow-covered mountains. As trekkers climb towards Dzongri, the landscape gradually opens into high-altitude meadows with magnificent panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges.Dzongri is famous for its breathtaking sunrise views, when the first rays of sunlight illuminate the snow-covered peaks of Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Kabru and Rathong in beautiful shades of gold and pink. From Dzongri, the trail descends towards Kokchurong before climbing again to the peaceful alpine meadows of Thansing. Thansing is particularly beautiful because it lies beneath the impressive slopes of Mount Pandim, with wide-open grasslands, rugged mountain walls and flowing streams creating a dramatic natural setting. The quiet surroundings and fresh mountain air make this campsite an ideal place to appreciate the untouched beauty of the Himalayas.Throughout the journey, trekkers can enjoy changing landscapes, from dense forests and wooden bridges to rocky paths, open valleys and towering snow-covered summits.
