About Harmukh Valley
The Harmukh Valley Trek is one of Kashmir’s most scenic high-altitude trekking experiences, beginning from the historic village of Naranag in Ganderbal district. The trail climbs steeply through beautiful pine forests and open alpine meadows before reaching the high pastures around Gangbal and Nundkol Lakes. These twin alpine lakes are situated beneath the imposing slopes of Mount Harmukh, creating an extraordinary combination of turquoise waters, green meadows, glaciers and rugged Himalayan peaks.
The trek offers a wonderful mix of natural beauty and adventure, with forest trails, steep ascents, mountain streams and high-altitude meadows along the route. Trekkers can spend time exploring the shores of Gangbal and Nundkol, enjoying spectacular views of Harmukh and experiencing the peaceful atmosphere of the remote Kashmir mountains. The standard Naranag–Gangbal route is roughly 27–32 km, while longer Harmukh–Gangbal itineraries can cover more ground. The main trekking season is June to September, when the higher trails are generally accessible and the meadows are at their most beautiful.
