About Margan Top

The Margan Top Trek is a spectacular offbeat trekking experience in the high mountains of Kashmir, centred around Margan Pass, a historic mountain crossing between the Kashmir Valley and the remote Warwan Valley. At approximately 3,696 metres (12,125 feet), the pass opens into an extraordinary high-altitude landscape of broad alpine meadows, rocky ridges, snow-dusted mountains and expansive views stretching toward the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The nearby Choharnag Lakes, a group of high-altitude alpine lakes, make the area even more attractive for trekkers and photographers.

The route can be experienced as a short alpine excursion or as part of a longer Choharnag, Warwan or Marwah Valley adventure. Trekkers can walk across green meadows, encounter seasonal wildflowers, explore glacial lakes and enjoy spectacular mountain scenery far away from Kashmir’s more crowded tourist destinations. From the pass, the landscape changes dramatically between the Kashmir side and the remote Warwan Valley, giving the journey a strong sense of wilderness and adventure. June to September is generally the most suitable period, when the pass is accessible and the alpine meadows are open.
