About Naranag–Marchoi
The Naranag–Marchoi Trek is a scenic and relatively accessible Himalayan adventure in the Ganderbal region of Jammu & Kashmir. The journey begins at the ancient village of Naranag, known for its historic temple ruins, and follows a beautiful trail through dense pine and fir forests toward Dumail and the upper Marchoi Valley. As trekkers gain altitude, the landscape gradually opens into green alpine meadows, mountain streams and spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The route provides a peaceful combination of forests, rivers, meadows and remote mountain scenery.
The main destination is Marchoi Meadow, situated at approximately 3,200 metres (10,500 ft). From the upper sections, trekkers can enjoy impressive views toward Mount Harmukh, Kotwal Peak, Salnai Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. In summer, the valley is covered with lush greenery and flowing streams, while winter transforms the route into a snow-covered landscape, making Marchoi particularly popular as a winter trekking destination.
