About Parang La
Parang La is one of the most extraordinary places in the Trans-Himalayan region, offering a rare glimpse of nature in its wildest and most untouched form. The journey begins in the remote villages of Spiti, where ancient settlements, vast mountain slopes and dramatic rocky landscapes gradually give way to an immense wilderness of glaciers, snowfields and high-altitude meadows. As the trail climbs towards the majestic Parang La Pass at an altitude of 5,578 metres, the surroundings become increasingly dramatic, with towering peaks, rugged ridgelines and icy terrain stretching towards the horizon. The silence of these remote mountains, interrupted only by the wind and the sound of flowing glacial water, creates an atmosphere of extraordinary peace and isolation. Beyond the pass, the landscape opens into the expansive Pare Chu River valley, where winding streams carve beautiful patterns through barren plains and colourful mineral-rich mountains. Further along the route, the magnificent Tso Moriri Lake reveals its deep blue and turquoise waters, reflecting the surrounding mountains beneath vast Himalayan skies. The changing colours of sunrise and sunset transform the landscape into shades of gold, copper, rose and violet, making the entire region feel almost otherworldly.
