Sopona Lake
Sopona Lake Trek is an offbeat high-altitude trek near Mane village in Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh. Located at around 13,500 ft, the seasonal glacial lake is reached by a 5–6 km trek one way from Maneyogma. The round trip takes approximately 6–7 hours and is considered moderate to difficult because of the altitude and steep sections. The best time is generally June to September, with July–September offering a better chance of seeing the lake filled with glacial meltwater.

About Sopona Lake
Sopona Lake is a seasonal high-altitude glacial lake situated at approximately 13,500 ft (4,122 m) in the remote Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The trek starts from Maneyogma, the upper part of Mane village, after crossing the Spiti River near Schichiling. The trail climbs through the stark, barren landscape characteristic of Spiti, with spectacular views towards the Manirang range. The lake receives water primarily from snow and glacier melt, which means its appearance changes considerably through the season. The trek is approximately 5–6 km one way, and a round trip generally takes 6–7 hours. Although the distance isn’t enormous, the 4,000+ metre altitude and steep sections make it considerably harder than the distance suggests. It is therefore better suited to trekkers who have already spent a few days acclimatizing in Spiti. There are also no reliable water sources on the trail, so carrying sufficient water is important.
One of the most interesting aspects of Sopona is that it is not a year-round full lake. Early in the season it can still be largely barren because the snowmelt has not fully started, while towards late autumn the water can disappear again.
